                                                           Do this, Do that

The teacher performs an action for example jumping, hopping, squatting etc. He/she gives the instruction “Do this” or “Do that”. When the teacher says Do This, the students copy the actions. When the teacher says ‘Do That’ the students continue what they had previously been doing.

                                                        Fox and Hen

Players form groups of 4. Three line up and hold on tightly to the person in front. The fourth player is the ‘fox’. Their task is to try and tag the player on the end of the line- the ‘hen’. The line’s task is to try and keep the ‘hen’ away from the fox (without letting go). When the fox is successful, the players rotate positions. This game is similar to triangle tag, where the 3 players join hands to form a triangle. The fourth player must try and tag one of the players in the triangle.

                                                  Rock, Paper, Scissors

Two or more children stand facing each other, they make a fist with one hand and put it into the centre. All players count 1, 2, 3. On 3 each child makes their hand into rock (closed fist), paper (open palm, all fingers extended) or scissors (open palm with index finger and middle finger extended and apart). This can be done standing on one leg, to practice the static balance or while in a squat position to practice the preparatory phase of the vertical jump.

                                                     Simon Says

The leader, or Simon, gives instruction on different movements. If Simon prefaces the direction with ‘Simon Says’ the players do the action (for example Simon Says put your hands on your head). If Simon does not preface the direction with Simon says (for example jump up and down), the players do not copy the action. Take it in turns at being Simon and include lots of vigorous activities.

                                                  Ship, Sea, Shore.

Three different coloured cones are placed at different sides of the hall. Allocate one colour to ship, one to sea and one to shore. All students should begin at cone representing ships. Teacher should call different locations and students must run to that line. To introduce a competitive element, a student who makes a mistake or the last student to get to cone should do 5 jumping jacks.

                                                        Numbers

Students move around a designated area in various ways as instructed. For example jog, skip, hop, side step etc. When the teacher calls out a number, students must get into groups of that number. Any students not in a group must perform 5 jumping jacks.

                                                  Cups and Saucers

Lay out cones around the hall (have some facing up and some facing down). Divide students into two teams (one ‘cups’ and one ‘saucers’). Both teams are given two minutes to turn cones i.e. cups face cones down saucers face cones up. At the end of the two minutes count the amount of cones facing each way, team with the most are the winners.
