JUMP

1. Eyes focused forwards or upwards throughout the jump.

2. Crouch down with knees bent and arms behind the body.

3.Swing the arms forwards and upwards forcefully.

4. Straighten legs in the air.

5. Land on the balls of the feet and bend knees to absorb the landing.

6. Control the landing with no more than one step in either direction.

                         Common Errors

  • Arms not used effectively in the jump.

  • Little or no body crouch before take-off.

  • Does not land on the balls of the feet.

                                     Activity 1 - Bunny Hop Tag

Purpose: To increase the heart rate and focus on taking off and landing with two feet.

 

Procedure: One person is nominated as the catcher, all students must bunny hop (two feet together) around area, the catcher attempts to tag the students and when they are tagged they also become catchers.

                                        Activity 2 - Pogo & Frog

Purpose: To emphasise the soft landing (toe-heel) in the jump.

Procedure: Students are split into two groups and they stand shoulder to shoulder facing each other. On the command, each group must jump together at the same time. The group which can collectively land the quietest are the winners.

                                                Activity 3 - Jump Relay

Purpose: To practice the jump horizontally. 

​

Procedure: The students are split into equal teams. Each team lines up one behind the other, all on the same start line. The first person on each team jumps as far as they can and marks their landing position with a cone. The next person hops from where the last person landed and marks their new landing position with a cone and so on until every member of the team has jumped. The winning team is the team who has hopped the furthest collectively.
